The Bunny on the Reading Park Trailer’s Dream
written by Mathias Svalina
I carry my heart strapped to my back. The heart is large & it beats strong & slow—it is, despite being strapped to my back, a healthy heart. But my heart is heavy, so heavy I can barely bear it. And yet, I keep putting one foot forward & then the next, your heart beating steadily against your shoulder & back. And when it feels I can’t manage a single more step, I look up & see the butterflies floating before me. The butterflies drop little lines to the heart & pull with me. Their wings are so weak that their pulling doesn’t make the heart any easier to bear, but the fact that they are helping makes my heavy heart easier to bear.
