Volunteer at Just Buffalo

Just Buffalo depends on volunteers and interns to help with a variety of tasks. If you’re interested in volunteering for one of the positions below, please complete a Volunteer Application to give us more information including your interests and availability. Just Buffalo reviews volunteer applications on a rolling basis, most often scheduling interviews in August and December for the following season. Please note that these are unpaid volunteer positions.

Events Volunteer

Help at BABEL and other events with set-up, greeting, tickets, programs, ushering, refreshments, and clean-up. All volunteers have the opportunity to hear the presentation. Must be friendly, dynamic, responsible, and comfortable interacting with people of all ages.

Street Team Volunteer

Looking for a fun way to get more involved with Just Buffalo? Join our “Street Team” & help us spread the word about upcoming events by distributing flyers & posters throughout the community. Must possess energy, enthusiasm, and an ability to work independently.

Writing Center Volunteer

Help teens 12–18 with writing-based work, greet new youth and parents, and perform a variety of other tasks around the Writing Center. Must be dynamic, outgoing and dependable, with some experience working with teens and availability on weekday afternoons.

4. Volunteer Interest & Availability

What would you like to volunteer for? Please check the Just Buffalo programs you’re interested in volunteering for below

Assist the Writing Center coordinator and support students as they develop their writing skills and confidence. Volunteers are needed at the JBWC, 468 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY 14203 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. Individuals who have a personal writing practice of some kind are strongly preferred.

Held at Kleinhans Music Hall, four (4) evenings per year. Events are held on weekdays (Tuesday–Friday) from 6:15 p.m.–10:00 p.m. Individuals who are friendly, helpful, flexible, and willing to do whatever is needed to make the evening enjoyable are strongly preferred. Volunteers must be able to work at least one evening event per year.

Pick up materials at the Just Buffalo office between 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. the day of BABEL events and transport them to Kleinhans. Help pack up at the end of evening at 11:00 p.m. and return materials to the office anytime on the next business day. Must be able to lift and drive.

Enjoy the day with the staff at the Just Buffalo office, preparing the BABEL programs with pens and index cards. Shift time is 4–6 hours on the Monday before the BABEL event.

Help with setup, greeting people, and serving beverages at WNY’s foremost poetry events, held at the Just Buffalo Writing Center (or alternate downtown location if larger venue is needed). Shift time is Thursday from 6:15 p.m.–10:00 p.m.

Help at the SILO City events, featuring poetry, music, and art at one of the city’s most unique venues. Events held during June, July, and August. Shift time is Saturday evening from 6:15p.m.–10:00 p.m. Must be able to walk to the reading location from parking area.

Volunteers are needed to help with many special events during the year.
