“gorge” by W.T. Joshua

hawks cast ravenous black
into the river shimmers
all rock formations scarred
from omnivorous water, reduced
to sheer earthly linenrevealing
no modesty
that can be asked
of sultry lover earth
she asks
for all
i have

in the wake of cataclysm
there’s life in each tide
a day
an hour
a surging

here, i am idle
my only idol:
this sanctuary
destitute,
only in name
