Japanese Manga Workshop with Max Weiss (Hybrid)
Are you a fan of Sailor Moon, Naruto, or One Piece? What about popular anime titles such as Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, or the films of Hayoao Miyazaki?
When we look at visual storytelling (aka “comics”) on the world stage, it is impossible to overlook the influence of Japanese cartooning. Japanese comics, also known as “manga”, have steadily grown in international markets since first becoming popular in the 1960s. Today manga is the second largest category in the US graphic novel market, with three times the sales of conventional superhero comics! Join local cartoonist Max Weiss in this comic-making workshop where we will dive into what makes Japanese comics so special and find ways to incorporate these techniques in our own art. All skill levels are welcome!
This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 10 in-person participants with the option to join virtually.
- COVID SAFETY: We’ll be following social distancing protocol, taking temperatures, and providing masks and sanitizer as needed.
