Just Buffalo Writing Center
468 Washington Street @ Mohawk, 2nd Floor
Buffalo, NY 14203
Dates: February 14 & 16, 2017
Time: 4:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
Day 1: Literary Breakdown
Harold Pinter lives on in his writings, which range from the poetic, to the political, to the intensely dramatic. As one of the most influential playwrights of the 20th century, his style has helped shape the contemporary theater and film world, even inspiring an addition to the dictionary – “Pinteresque.” In this workshop, students will experiment with the elements of Pinter’s writing and what made his voice so unique in its time and to this day.
Day 2: Dramatic Exploration
Pinter’s words and, sometimes more importantly, his silences make the most sense in their intended mode of expression – performance. Students will work together on scenes from Pinter plays and use dramatic analysis to bring them to life. This workshop is followed by an invitation to join Torn Space Theater for a free dress rehearsal performance of its upcoming Pinter production – The Collection.
Marisa Caruso works with Torn Space Theater as a stage manager, dramaturg, and Director of Program Development and Special Events. As an actor, she has performed at many local theaters including Road Less Traveled, Shakespeare in Delaware Park, and Buffalo Laboratory Theater. She is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia’s Department of Theater and Dance, and teaches youth theater classes in Hamburg.
This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 12 participants.
