There’s writing, and then there’s the performance of writing. Capturing an audience’s attention comes with its own set of challengesbut it can be fun, too! Whether reading for a live audience or digitally over Zoom, how can our voices stand out? In this workshop, we’ll examine the reading styles of a variety of great poets and practice performing styles of our own.

About the Teaching Artist

Rachelle Toarmino is a writer and editor from Niagara Falls, New York. She is the author of the poetry collection That Ex (Big Lucks Books, 2020) and the chapbook Feel Royal (b l u s h lit, 2019). She is the founding editor-in-chief of Peach Mag and the editor of the anthology With You: Withdrawn Poetry of the #MeToo Movement. She lives in Buffalo, where she works as the communications and development manager of Arts Services Initiative of Western New York.
