In collaboration with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, we will focus on artists featured in the exhibition “We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965–85”.

Toronto artist Zeesy Powers will join us again this year to moderate. Co-presented by Peach Mag. In partnership with Buffalo State College’s Women & Gender Studies Interdisciplinary Minor, UB Department of Art, and UB Department of Media Study. Sponsored by WNY Book Arts Center & Tipico Coffee.

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. Content is skewed by the lack of representation from women.

Let’s change that.

Join us at Squeaky Wheel for an all day communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to gender, art and feminism. We provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, childcare, and refreshments. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women.

If you require childcare, please email caitcoder@gmail.com with the first names of children requiring care, their ages, and what time you plan on attending.

We encourage attendees to bring a laptop and power cord, and create a Wikipedia account prior to the event.
