Since 1982, Just Buffalo Literary Center has led the way for literary arts education in Western New York. The Just Buffalo Writing Center (JBWC) has long been a gathering place designed to aid young and emerging writers ages 12–18 in the cultivation of their writing skills. But the JBWC is also a great resource for encouraging and supporting the teachers in our community.
We believe that teachers are the most passionate, dedicated, and creative people on the planet. We want to support their creativity by providing opportunities for them to write amongst each other and other creative writers. Our Teachers Are Writers: Writing Without The Curriculum is a happy hour-style writing workshop that meets monthly at the JBWC.
We provide professional development opportunities for any and all teachers and school districts. Our goal in working with school districts is to have teachers and administrators learn methods to help students write confidently with sound, sensible organization and strong, original voices. Knowing the power creative writing can play in the classroom, our PD will leave teachers and administrators leaving with various creative activities that help inspire students to access their imaginations and value writing in general.
One of Just Buffalo’s greatest strengths is our ability to reach students of all ages and abilities—gifted and talented, at-risk, or special needs—and we’re proud to work with public, private, Catholic, and charter schools, as well as community centers throughout Western New York. Each of our writing programs is custom-designed in partnership with teachers and administrators. Connect with us to bring Just Buffalo’s award-winning writing programs to your school.
Just Buffalo also welcomes schools, educators, organizations, and groups to visit our Writing Center for a custom-designed creative writing experience.
