Just Buffalo Writing Center is thrilled to invite you to join us for an imaginative creative writing summer camp.
Led by an exceptional team of teaching artists, you’ll spend a week developing your creative and literary potential through a series of innovative workshops, activities, and challenges. Typewriters, art galleries, rooftops, and sidewalks: each day, we’ll explore a variety of genres and draw inspiration from other art forms, our community, and each other.
At the JBWC, we think it is important for young writers to try their hand at multiple forms of literary expression. Each day participants will be moving between modes. Fiction, poetry, songs, comics, plays: everything is fair game! While we’ll spend a good amount of time reading and writing together in the window-filled JBWC loft overlooking downtown Buffalo, this camp will be anything but sedentary. Every day we’ll get out of our chairs, grab our notebooks, and get moving. Maybe we’ll do a little yoga. Maybe we’ll go on a literary “scavenger hunt.” Each session will present a new series of adventures! Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of what makes writing “good”, while creating a book full of their creations.
“It’s almost like the walls are filled with magic, telling me, “Write! Write like the world depends on it!”
“We walked around and wrote about color on the first day I was here. I chose yellow and commented on traffic vests and sunrays. This particular workshop made me look at the world closer and differently. The center is a growing place. Everyone is growing and budding in a million intertwined ways. And it looks so beautiful.”
“When I first came to the center I didn’t know who I was or even what to do with myself. I didn’t know what to make of it all. Now, I don’t just know what to make of it all, I know that I can make it all, and the possibilities are limitless.”
