Rotten Kid by Ben Brindise

Rotten Kid

“There was a kid sitting in the back row of every homeroom you were ever in. Maybe they didn’t talk much, always had their face in a book, never raised their hand, didn’t go to the school dance. They’re the kid with the bad acne, the scar on their chin, the story they never told stuck firmly on their tongues. Every once in a while one of those kids opens their mouths. When they do we get the thoughts of those we never really thought about.”

Benjamin Brindise

I Was A Lid

“We all have fond memories of better times and have met people we wish we hadn’t. In the course of a life these moments form a patchwork of light and shadows. For Elizabeth, who’s just found her husband dead in the bathtub, one of these shadowy patches is beginning to brighten and something is coming to remind her that no matter how tightly you lock a lid over a secret… it can always come loose.”
