What Does “Blue” Mean to You? Share Your Story.

Inspired by Imani Perry’s moving work, Just Buffalo invites you to reflect on your own “blue story.”

In the world of literature, art, and life, blue is never just a color. It is a mood, a melody, a memory, and a landscape. It represents our struggles and the heights of our beauty. As part of our Civil Writes Project, we are seeking meditations on the many shades of this experience.

We want to hear from you:
What does “blue” mean to you in this moment?
Is there a specific memory, place, or time that carries that hue?
How do you find the beauty within the blues?

How to Participate

We welcome a wide range of creative expressions, including:

  • Writing (Poems, short prose, or reflections)
  • Visual stories (photography, short films, and visual art)

Through this community project, your contributions will join a collective of voices, exploring the complexities of our shared human experience. Selected pieces will be featured digitally as part of Just Buffalo’s Civil Writes Project.
