This workshop for new novel writers will offer exercises and discussion about creating and developing characters. We’ll focus on protagonists, but look at secondary characters as well. Along the way we’ll talk about point of view, setting, and other aspects of novel-writing. This workshop will provide a supportive environment for writers who have begun their project and want to keep making progress.

Writers who have taken the “How to Start Your Novel” workshop are very welcome, but that class is not a prerequisite.

Please note the following workshop requirements:

  • Limit one ticket per purchase.
  • Any tickets purchased at the member price require a current Just Buffalo membership.

About the Teaching Artist

Janet McNally is author of the young adult novels Girls in the Moon and The Looking Glass (HarperCollins), and a collection of poems, Some Girls, winner of the White Pine Press Poetry Prize. She has an MFA from the University of Notre Dame, and has twice been a fiction fellow with the New York Foundation for the Arts. Janet teaches creative writing at Canisius College.
