Silo City Reading Series: Roger Reeves, Ae Hee Lee, Katie Bejsiuk, Max Collins

Join us for the season finale of the 2023 SILO CITY READING SERIES featuring poetry from Roger Reeves & 2023 Just Buffalo Poetry Fellow Ae He Lee, a musical performance by Katie Bejsiuk, and an installation by Max Collins.

Doors at 7:00 p.m. | Reading begins at 7:30 p.m.

About the Poets & Artists

Roger Reeves is the author of Best Barbarian (W.W. Norton & Co., 2022), a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award & the Griffin Poetry Prize. Tracy K. Smith called it “a revelation and a form of reparation.” His debut collection is King Me (Copper Canyon Press, 2013), a Library Journal Best Poetry Book of the year, and winner of the Larry Levis Reading Prize, the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Literary Award, and a John C. Zacharis First Book Award. His next book is Dark Days: Fugitive Essays to be published by Graywolf in August 2023. His poems have appeared in journals such as Poetry, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, Boston Review, and Tin House, among others. He was awarded a 2013 NEA Fellowship, Ruth Lilly Fellowship by the Poetry Foundation in 2008, a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University, two Bread Loaf Scholarships, an Alberta H. Walker Scholarship from the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, two Cave Canem Fellowships and a Whiting Award.

Ae Hee Lee 2023 Poetry Fellow
Born in South Korea and raised in Peru, Ae Hee Lee’s debut poetry collection ASTERISM was selected by John Murillo for the 2022 Dorset Prize and is forthcoming from Tupelo Press. She is the author of poetry chapbooks: Bedtime || Riverbed (Compound Press 2017), Dear bear, (Platypus Press 2021), and Connotary (Frost Place Chapbook Competition Winner – Bull City Press 2021).

Ae Hee Lee is the 2023 Just Buffalo Poetry Fellow, a recipient of a James Olney Award by The Southern Review, Adroit Journal Gregory Djanikian Scholar in Poetry, and Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship Finalist. She has also received scholarships and awards from the Academy of American Poets, AWP, Bread Loaf, the Palm Beach Poetry Festival, and Gasher Journal, among others.

Katie Bejsiuk is the solo project of Katie Bennett
Katie Bejsiuk is the solo project of Katie Bennett, the singer-songwriter behind the bygone indie pop band Free Cake For Every Creature. Her music has been featured in Pitchfork, NPR, and on Rolling Stone‘s list of Best Albums of 2018. She’s toured across North America and Europe and is an experienced producer, having recorded Katie Bejsiuk’s album The Woman on the Moon in her apartment in West Philadelphia. Katie is also a writer, and her work has appeared in Lit Hub and various publications.

Max Collins is an acclaimed photographer and wheatpaste artist best known for creating artworks and installations by adhering images onto various materials and objects. Max holds a BFA in Photojournalism from the University of Michigan and an MFA from the University at Buffalo.

While living in Portland, Oregon from 2016-2020, Max focused his work on supporting bereaved families by facilitating memorial art-making workshops, becoming a licensed funeral director, and planning a wide range of funerals, services, and celebrations of life. As a community-focused artist in Buffalo, Max has implemented public art projects, exhibitions, and workshops over the last decade with various institutions and organizations across WNY.

Max has artwork in the permanent collection at The Burchfield-Penney Art Center, and his work has been showcased in solo shows at the Castellani Art Museum, WNY Books Art Center, and BAM Gallery. Max was recently invited to participate in a public art residency with The Albright Knox Art Gallery that took place throughout Summer/Fall of 2021.
