Mad Flora & Fauna – Writing Emotions: Youth Writing Workshop
Let’s dive into the rich world of emotions to explore how our own feelings can inspire writing.
What is the rhythm of sadness? The shape of joy? What animal or plant represents boredom? We’ll experiment with embodying emotion through writing, movement, drawing, or whatever mediums you choose, in an atmosphere of care and support.
- The JBWC Creative Writing Programs for Youth are FREE and aimed at young students aged 12–18.
- This youth writing workshop is virtual only.
- ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: If you have any questions/issues accessing any of these opportunities, please let us know and we will work with you to make sure you can participate.

STEPHANIE HEIT (she/her) is a queer disabled poet, dancer, teacher, and codirector of Turtle Disco, a somatic writing space on Anishinaabe land in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She is bipolar, a shock/psych system survivor, a mad activist, and a member of the Olimpias, an international disability performance collective. Her poetry collections are the book of hybrid memoir poems, PSYCH MURDERS (Wayne State University Press, 2022), which invites the reader inside psychiatric wards and shock treatments toward new futures of care, and The Color She Gave Gravity (Operating System, 2017), which explores the seams of language, movement, and mental health difference.
