
Literary Café at CFI with Robert McDonough and Maril Nowak
The Literary Café at CFI will feature poets Robert McDonough and Maril Nowak reading from their work on September 4, 2024, at 7:30 at Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweethome Rd., off Maple Rd, Amherst NY. Hosted by ryki zuckerman. Free and open to the public.
Robert McDonough has two books of his poetry out, No Other World (Cleveland State University Poetry Center, 1988) and Greatest Hits (Pudding House Publications, 2009), as well as numerous poems in little magazines and anthologies. He is an English professor emeritus at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland OH, and moderated Cleveland poets for 21 years. McDonough has two adult children and numerous grandkids, and lives in retirement on a hill in the Finger Lakes district with Maril Nowak.
Maril Nowak has two previous chapbooks, Slender Crescent and Postcards From Michigan, which are now out of print. Nowak’s poems have been awarded the Gwendolyn Brooks Prize at Michigan State University; the Midwest Poetry Prize in 1989; a dramatic reading by the Poets and Writers League of Greater Cleveland; and an original orchestration/reading by Cleveland Composers’ Guild, Rocky River Chamber Orchestra, and professional actors. Nowak taught college English for 25 years before retirement. She has had work in Seneca Review and other small press magazines. A new chapbook of her poetry is forthcoming from Foothills Publishing.
