Building Character with Richie Wills (Hybrid)
Building characters can be a daunting task. Characters are one of the most important components of fiction, no matter the length, subject matter, or style. Despite the splendors of science fiction and fantasy – the spaceships, the dragons, the telepaths and unicorns — the most crucial part of a speculative fiction story is, as with a literary story, the characters, who enchant, entertain, engage, and generally become part of the reader’s inner circle of friends. In this workshop we will explore how to go about creating characters that shape your narrative and what makes a reader care deeply about a character to the point where they remember them long after reading.
This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 10 in-person participants with the option to join virtually.
