Friday, September 4, 2020 Talk to the Hand(book) (Youth) Categories: Official JB Events Timelines: 3b: Past Workshops (Unseen Archive), 4: Laura Marris Workshops & Events
How many times have we been sent instructions that actually make the task more complicated? In this workshop, we will explore the underrated poetry of handbooks and manuals, and their history as small texts that fit in a pocket and help to shed light on some piece of the world. We will look at real how-to manuals (like A Handbook of Poisonous Snakes), poetry anthologies (like A Handbook of Heartbreak), and other creative works that boldly declare themselves as guides. Each participant will leave the workshop with an alternative handbook of their own making. This workshop is open to all genres, and no previous writing experience is necessary!
