Things Presented to the Mind: Curating Collaboration Between Object and Poem

Taught by: Christina Vega-Westhoff, poet & translator
Where:
Just Buffalo Writing Center
468 Washington Street @ Mohawk, 2nd Floor
Buffalo, NY 14203
Dates: January 31 & February 2, 2017
Time: 4:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.

What happens when we ask a poem to be tactile? What new connections are made visible? And when we make a poem from something we can touch? How does form get translated? In this workshop we will honor the notion that as poets we are makers. And we will reflect on how our makings might be approached in relation to one another and to an audience. Students are asked to bring a poem important to them to the first session. The final workshop will be reserved for displaying our makings (possibilities include poetry mobiles, collages, object poems, imitation poems, artist statements, etc.).

This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 12 participants.
