Letterpress & Printmaking
Learn about the history & art of letterpress printing! In the Book Arts letterpress studio, students will handset a poem/text using antique type (letter by letter!) to collaboratively create a hand-printed piece on a 1950s printing press. This is a two-part workshop exploring hand-set type the first session, and printing methods the second session. All participating students will hand-print and receive a copy from the limited edition of prints created.
This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 12 participants.
Rosemary Williams is the Program Director at the Western New York Book Arts Center. She has a BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Printmaking from the University at Buffalo. Starting at the Book Arts Center as an intern, Rosemary quickly fell in love with the place and was delighted at the opportunity to become more involved. With an affliction of overworking herself and an affection for bubbles, she runs and teaches workshops for kids on printmaking and book arts at WNYBAC and also manages her own art practice.
