Places and People
In this workshop, we will focus on settings and characters. Students will use writing prompts to create their own unique and fun settings for flash fiction pieces. Once students have their settings, they’ll make up characters to populate their settings, give these characters quick problems to solve. At the end of each workshop, students will leave with a finished flash fiction piece. This workshop is open to writers of all abilities.
This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 12 participants.
Gabriel Bump is from South Shore, Chicago. His nonfiction and fiction have appeared in SLAM magazine, the Huffington Post, Springhouse Journal, and elsewhere. He was awarded the 2016 Deborah Slosberg Memorial Award for Fiction and the 2015 Summer Literary Seminars Montreal Flash Fiction Prize. He received his MFA in Fiction from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Gabriel’s first two novels—Everywhere You Don’t Belong and The New Naturals—are forthcoming from Algonquin Books.
