Do you have a perfect idea for a movie or play? Are you having a hard time getting started, or sharpening your plot, making your protagonist whole? Did you have a poignant dream that only a visual medium can express? If you’re interested in turning your ideas into reality—this is the class for you! Students of all levels will enter a safe space to maturate screen- or stage plays. We’ll approach both of these mediums as learnable crafts. We’ll remove the mystery and discover translating our thoughts into movements is similar to arranging a three-dimensional puzzle. We’ll read excerpts from scripts, complete exercises, and read through student work together.

Gabriel Bump grew up in South Shore, Chicago. His work has appeared in The New York Times, McSweeney’s, Guernica, Electric Literature, SLAM, and elsewhere. Everywhere You Don’t Belong (Algonquin 2020), his debut, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice. His second novel is forthcoming, also from Algonquin. He received his MFA in Fiction from the University of Massachusetts–Amherst. He currently lives in Buffalo, New York.
