Self-Publishing 1-2-3-4 is a step-by-step guide to putting a quality book into print. Participants will leave with an understanding of how to vet and prepare a manuscript for publication, obtain an ISBN, design or obtain a cover, and go into print. The workshop will conclude with a discussion of marketing. (Note: Self-Publishing 1-2-3-4 is not a workshop on how to write.)

Part One—Vetting and preparing a manuscript for publication:
Proofreading a manuscript. Effective research. The importance of grammar, usage, and spelling.

Part Two—Obtaining an ISBN and designing the interior of the book:
Using templates to design the interior of a 6×9 trade paperback. Choosing a print-on-demand service. Obtaining an ISBN.

Part Three—Designing, finding, or commissioning a cover:
Judging a book by its cover. Cover considerations and designs. Photography. Fonts.

Part Four—Marketing:
Press releases. Sell sheets. Getting reviews. Working with independent bookstores. Book fairs.
