JBWC Field Trips

Since 1982, Just Buffalo Literary Center has offered custom-designed programs for learners of all ages & abilities. We invite learners to experience the magic of creative writing through our award-winning programs in our downtown space.

You’re invited to the Just Buffalo Writing Center, where imaginations run wild, stories come alive, and every voice matters!

From wild poems to epic adventures, comics or bookmaking, Just Buffalo provides writers of all ages with the opportunity to explore their creativity in an open, welcoming environment.

What JBWC Field Trips Are All About

The JBWC welcomes schools, educators, organizations, and other groups to visit us for an individually tailored creative writing experience that strengthens writing skills, explores different genres, and encourages the magic of creative expression for learners of all ages and abilities.

Guided through a series of generative activities in our downtown space, your group will dive into the world of writing and leave energized to continue creating. Thanks to our incredible team of teaching artists, your group will leave inspired, motivated, and able to express themselves creatively.

All field trips include hands-on writing activities on a topic of your choice, including:

  • Poetry Writing
  • Zine Making
  • Comics
  • Altered Books
  • Flash Fiction
  • Literary Magazines & Journal Editing
  • Collaborative Writing
  • Spoken Word Performing
  • Choose Your Own Adventure
  • Or… create your own field trip in collaboration with our team!

Program Duration: From 2 hours to half-day options
Program Cost: $20–$30 per student (depending on specific options)

In-School Creative Writing Programs

Each JBWC creative writing program is a unique collaboration with classroom teachers and administrators. Together we design writing exercises that support classroom goals while giving students the freedom to experiment with language, voice, and imagination.

BABEL Student Reading Groups

Just Buffalo’s BABEL Student Reading Groups invite curious young readers into the living heart of literature. Led by an English teacher with over 30 years of experience and designed specifically for high school readers, this enrichment program draws inspiration from the books featured in the BABEL Author Series.
