Hope Blooms From Shattered Roots is a digital collection of writings presented by Just Buffalo Writing Center in connection to The Civil Writes Project (2021), featuring work by young writers and artists living in WNY. Just as the journey towards justice must be a collective effort, this collection features collaborations between young artists and activists from a variety of organizations and projects around the city, and beyond. On Saturday, July 31, 2021 Just Buffalo's Silo City Reading Series celebrated the evening with poetry from Peter Gizzi and Laura Marris, with an incredible musical performance from Shilpa Ray with artwork & projections by Adam Zyglis.
We are thrilled to announce the nine artists, organizations, and community groups receiving a total of $15,000 to support events aligned with this year's Civil Writes Project, celebrating Black writers and seeking pathways toward justice through the literary arts.
