Inspired by Imani Perry’s moving work, Just Buffalo invites you to pause and reflect on your own “blue story.” In the world of literature, art, and life, blue is never just a color. It is a mood, a melody, a memory, and a landscape. It represents our struggles and the heights of our beauty. As part of our Civil Writes Project, we are seeking meditations on the many shades of this experience.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Trust, Hernan Diaz, continued the BABEL season at Kleinhans last night. Diaz presented with humor, wit, and generosity, and reminded us that "the future is something we must build together."

Last night we kicked off the BABEL season with none other than Brooklyn and Long Island author Colm Tóibín. Tóibín dazzled the audience with his humor, insight, and beautiful storytelling—a perfect start to the season!

Last night was such a wonderful start to the BABEL season! Sandra Cisneros captivated all of us with her honesty, her humor and her effortlessly beautiful storytelling.

What a beautiful ending to a great season. Thank you Kiese Laymon for your warmth, your vulnerability, your humor, and your incredible work. Thank you to our audience, both at Kleinhans and at home—the magic of BABEL is because of all of you.

On March 21, 2024, Just Buffalo Literary Center welcomed best-selling author John Irving to BABEL. Mr. Irving shared multiple excerpts from his forthcoming novel tentatively titled, Queen Esther. He shared more about the book than we think he wanted to. Thank you to everyone who joined us which created the atmosphere for a remarkable evening.
