“The Crossroads of Poetry and Song Lyrics”
Have you ever listened to the lyrics of a song—I mean really listened?  If you have, and you have been drawn to the meaning, perhaps you have wondered why people separate poem-writing from song-writing.  In this session, we will try to figure this problem out, and we will use our conversations as a basis to create actual writing exercises and then try them out together.

“This Writing is Really Moving: Writing with the Whole Body”
Often, we think of writing as something that we do with our minds. We imagine that our hands operate like pieces of mind-recording equipment, typing or writing out the contents of our minds. But what if our hands, and our bodies, do more than just record our thoughts? What if our bodies shape our thoughts and give us our words? In this workshop, we’ll use body movements and sensory experiments to study how our bodies and minds work together when we write.

“Sound: Poetry”

Sound. It’s a fundamental element of poetic language; it can be its own poetry. Writers in this workshop will be sound alchemists: listening to & writing about sounds, recording, mixing & manipulating sounds, creating & arranging “found sounds” from random objects, and working a strange experimental device, the POEMATIC 9000.
