Just Buffalo Writing Center Poetry Prize for Young Writers

Just Buffalo Writing Center is thrilled to announce the second Just Buffalo Writing Center Poetry Prize for Young Writers!
Open to WNY youth ages 12-18, the contest will be judged by poet, Joe Hall, and comes with some pretty amazing prizes.

The opportunity for the winner to read their winning poem at the STUDIO Series. The winner will be the opening act for the poet Eileen Myles!
A pair of season’s tickets to JBLC’s 2016-2017 BABEL series (for the winner and 2 runner-ups).
As well as publication on the Just Buffalo Writing Center Tumblr,
and in Wordplay, Just Buffalo’s annual anthology of student writing (for the winner and two runner-ups),
and a Talking Leaves gift certificate.


Entries must be emailed by March 31, 2017.


  1. Submit no more than 2 poems (up to 3 pages; previously unpublished) on any subject. Please do not include any illustrations, photographs, or images.
  1. Please include your name, email address, phone number, school, and age with your submission.
    Submit Word document (.doc or .docx) by email to: submissions@justbuffalo.org.
  1. You must be 12-18 years old and live in Western New York.


Joe Hall is an educator and the author of three collections of poems: Pigafetta Is My Wife, The Devotional Poems, and Utopia (forthcoming). With Chad Hardy, he wrote the book The Container Store Vols. I & II (SpringGun Press). With Cheryl Quimba, he wrote the chapbook May I Softly Walk. He lives in Kenmore, NY.
