| Movement as the Pathway to Writing Workshop Linda Drajem & Kathy Shoemaker Saturday, March 20, 2010 @ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM In our busy lives it is difficult to find time to tap into our creative potential. This morning workshop will give you time and space to use movement to relax the body and free the mind to lead us into writing. Experienced yoga teacher/poet Kathy Shoemaker and writer/teacher Linda Drajem will use a variety of low-key body and breath exercises to access the imagination in order to write in new ways. We will explore our bodies’ responses, then write from those responses and see what may emerge. Linda Drajem taught English in Buffalo Public high schools for many years and more recently at Buffalo State College, where she also worked with pre-service teachers. She has been published inBuffalo News Poetry Page, In the Company of Women, Trees of Surprise, and elsewhere. She holds a Ph.D. from SUNY at Buffalo in American Studies. Currently she is member of Just Buffalo Literary Center’s Writers Corps. In addition she does writing workshops for the Buffalo AAUW and at St Monica’s School. Kathy Shoemaker is a poet and a long time Certified Yoga Instructor and practitioner. She has taught at East Meets West and Gilda’s Club and many other places. She is a teaching artist with the Milkweed Collective of WNY which presents the program Exploring Creativity in Depth to schools, communities, and organizations in WNY. Currently, she is finishing her degree at Empire State College. In addition she does creative dance with the Spirit Dance Group. Both Linda and Kathy published a volume of poetry, InnerSessions, with local writer Barbara Faust. They are long time members of the writing group, Women of the Crooked Circle.
