Drawing Stories / Writing Pictures

Taught by: John Bateman, writer
Where:
Just Buffalo Writing Center
468 Washington Street @ Mohawk, 2nd Floor
Buffalo, NY 14203
Dates: October 4 & 6, 2016
Time: 4:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. Maybe a story is worth 1000 images. Do you communicate with image and text? Are you able to use one without the other, or do both work together for you? Have you ever had a conversation and NOT used emojis?

This workshop is for writers of all genre who want to explore the visual aspects of writing. This workshop will encourage you to break the distinction between image and text.

This workshop will include a generative component for each class session, and provide examples of other writer/artists who have mixed images and texts as a way to spark ideas. Additionally, we may look outside of literature and art to explore contemporary ways that images and words work together.

Instruction will not be provided in drawing or photography or any media of image-making, instead, we will focus on the incorporation of images into texts (or texts into images). No drawing or photography skills are required for this class.

This workshop is FREE, aimed at young students aged 12–18, and limited to 12 participants.
