The Burchfield Penney welcomes Buffalo-native and bestselling author Lauren Belfer to The Center for a presentation on the inspirations for her three novels, with a special focus on Buffalo-based City of Light.

Lauren will present an illustrated lecture that she’s designed specifically for the Burchfield Penney audience. Her talk is entitled, “From Fact to Fiction: The Creation of Three Historical Novels.” She will explore her inspirations and explain how she researched each of her books, with an emphasis on City of Light, her portrait of Buffalo during its glory days in 1901. She will also discuss the responsibility she feels to keep as close to the facts as possible.

After her talk, all three of her novels will be available for purchase from Talking Leaves, Buffalo’s independent bookseller, and Lauren will be delighted to sign copies.

Lauren Belfer grew up in Buffalo and attended the Buffalo Seminary. City of Light, her first novel, was a New York Times bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book. Her second novel, A Fierce Radiance, was a Washington Post Best Novel of the Year and an NPR Mystery of the Year. Her most recent novel, And After the Fire, received a National Jewish Book Award.
